In this post, you will learn how a dent with cracked and chipped paint is repaired. These types of repairs require the customer’s acceptance.

What we do in a touch-up dent repair
In this type of repair, 1) the metal will be restored and 2) the damaged paint will need to be refinished.

Step 1: Wash and polish
Prepare the dented area with car wash soap and remove any transfer paint and light scratches with a light polish to start the repair.

Step 2: Applying the method of dent removal
The preparation stage is the same for all repairs. The only thing that varies is the repair method.

For example, the repair might require metal pushing or glue pulling or a combination of both. Some areas on a vehicle, like roof rails can only be repaire by glue pulling only.
For a detailed explanation of the PDR process, you can read this post: What is PDR and how does it work?
Step 3: Matching the appropriate colour
Once the dent has been repaired, prepare the damage paint with 99% alcohol to remove any contaminants.
The damage is then touche up with an appropriately matching colour to prevent any rusting of the future.
Sometimes the customer might supply a touch-up pen that can be use effectively.
If the customer doesn’t have a paint pen, we have a variety of colours to match from Doctor Colour Chips. Over 100 colours to mix. Some colours already come to match and some will have to mix to match.
This colour system is highly recommended.
Things to avoid when fixing a dent
We do not recommend glue pulling on crack, chip and aftermarket paint because these conditions can be easily delaminated from glue pulling. Factory paints are recommended for glue pulling because they are more durable than aftermarket paint.
